Rare Replay is a compilation of 30 games developed by Rare and its predecessor, Ultimate Play the Game, over their 30-year history across platforms from the ZX Spectrum to the Xbox 360. It was released worldwide on August 4, 2015, for the Xbox One.
Rare Replay was first announced at E3 2015, and it was the #1 pre-ordered title on Amazon UK at the time of its announcement.[citation needed]
Gameplay
As players play through the games and clear challenges, they earn Stamps, which unlock the Rare Revealed bonus featurettes, wherein Rare developers discuss the development of certain titles. This includes some unreleased games such as The Fast and the Furriest and Conker: Gettin' Medieval.
Every game in the collection from 1983 to 1994 can use CRT scanlines filter and a "Rewind" feature that allows the player to undo up to 10 seconds of gameplay. This feature was added to ease the difficulty of the games. There are certain achievements for not using the "Rewind" feature.
Additionally, there are 16 "Snapshot Challenges" of mini-games base on segments of the 16 retro games, including the infamous Turbo Tunnel challenge called Turbo Tunnel Infinite.
Games
Due to licensing issues, the Donkey Kong Country games, Diddy Kong Racing, and GoldenEye 007 are absent from the collection. Many of the games received minor changes such as button layouts and bug fixes.
