Animal Buddy

Overview

First seen in Donkey Kong Country, Animal Buddies were presented as creatures native to Donkey Kong Island who had befriended the Kongs and would assist them in various capacities in their struggle against the Kremling Krew. Their ranks would expand in later games to include animals from surrounding areas. An important aspect of an animal buddy is that it differs from the anthropomorphic, talking species originating from Timber's Island. They're traditional animals without a high-level of intelligence or the ability to speak language (minus exceptions like Squawks, who can mimic English).

Northern Kremisphere Natives

Although there was no "torch bearer" animal buddy this time around, there was an enemy that fulfilled the same role. (see "Helpful Enemies" section below)

Items
  • Animal Crate - These are crates that contain animal buddies. Much like DK Barrels will contain Kongs due to the Kremling curse, these are the containers for many of the buddies. A silhouette representing an individual animal buddy is painted on the exterior to indicate who is inside. When cracked open, the animal buddy will be exposed, allowing you to utilize their services (either by riding them, or, in the case of pre-Squawks and Parry, flying overhead). If your animal is touched by an enemy or obstacle, it will send them running away in a panic. It's sometimes possible to catch up with them and ride them again. Using an animal buddy from a crate, in essence, gives you an extra "hit."
  • Animal Barrel - These are hollow barrels that have an animals image depicted on it. When jumping into one of these, the Kong transforms into that animal buddy. While it's believed by some that it's the Kong in the shape of their animal friend, the animal buddy is most likely in control, "beamed into" the reconfigured body of the Kong. Utilizing the animal barrel, the animal can have two hits, the second hit replacing where the second Kong would be. Therefore, as long as a transformed animal buddy opens a DK Barrel, it gains a hit. The animal barrels were created for levels where you would need to use an Animal Buddy for the entire level. Without these, your animal buddy would run away every time you got hurt, rendering the stage impossible to complete.
  • No Animal Sign - These magical signs were erected by the Kremlings. They each have a silhouette of an animal buddy in a red circle with a slash through it. If you are with an animal buddy or are transformed into one and try to pass it, your animal would disappear. On the plus side, you were usually granted a helpful item.
Helpful Enemies

There are several enemies throughout the games that could actually be used to the Kongs' benefit. While not traditional Animal Buddies, in that their services aren't voluntary and all are members of the Kremling Krew, many did play valuable roles. These enemies usually would not intentionally try to hurt you, but many of them could.

  • Nibbla - The Nibbla in the Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! stage "Fish Food Frenzy" followed you around just like any other non-ridable animal buddy, eating any enemy he came close to. You had to keep him constantly fed (but not Lurchins, as their spines disagreed with him and made him angry) or else he would get hungry and attack you. He also had a no animal sign near the end of the level, although you didn't get any reward.

B. Locker

Standing Guard

According to B. Locker himself, he is one of many minions of King K. Rool. Unlike the others, however, he has been given a very important task. This task was to block Donkey Kong and keep him from freeing the other Kongs and reclaiming his bananas, 'but not in a violent way.

Bachelor

He resides in his Pad in, oddly enough, Lake Orangutanga. He is single, and hopes to meet someone real soon.

Berri

Personality

Though little of Berri's personality is shown in Conker's Pocket Tales, she was presumably kind and cheery much like Conker was in this game. In Conker's Bad Fur Day/Conker: Live & Reloaded, Berri was portrayed as somewhat naive and ditzy, if not a full-blown idiot since she couldn't notice Conker due to him wearing a hat (that didn't even conceal his face), she has a valley girl accent and a stereotypical "sexy girl" attitude.

Despite her beauty and sexiness, she is also referred to as a "slut" by several characters in Conker's Bad Fur Day/Conker: Live & Reloaded; her picture graces the cover and several pages of "Fur Only" magazine, several messages saying "For a good-time, call Berri" can also be found throughout the game as well, implying she might be a lingerie model, a stripper or even a prostitute.

Bettete

Due to this alien wearing pink, it's been proven that Bettete is a girl of her family.

Buga the Knut

He spends much of his time bragging to his girlfriend, Jugga, about his allegedly-large penis. After Conker tames Fangy and kills several Uga-Bugas, Jugga remarks that Conker must have a larger penis, and Buga enters in the arena in a fury to destroy Conker.

Soon Buga drops his loincloth and is unable to conceal the fact that his penis is in fact tiny. In humiliation, he breaks out of the arena and disappears.

Trivia
  • In Conker's Bad Fur Day, he has 3 toes like Fred Flintstone.

Candy Kong

Candy Kong vs Zero Suit samus

Candy Kong is the main hero in the Nintendo DS game- Candy Kong vs ZSS. One day, ZSS and Donkey Kong are fighting on the battlefield. DK cannot resist her and they start getting passionate. However, Candy sees it and slaps ZSS. She brakes up with DK and DK is annoyed with ZSS. However, Candy wants revenge and chases after ZSS.

Conga the Ape

Trivia
  • When Banjo goes to his tree and talks to him there in termite form, Conga calls himself "Congo" instead of his real name for reasons unbeknown to anyone.

Conker the Squirrel

Trivia
  • Rare originally designed Conker to be part of the Donkey Kong Country series but Nintendo rejected him.

Dolphin

The Dolphins are a minor character in the Banjo-Kazooie series who are obviously dolphins.

Dr. Dolittle-Goode

==Doing Little Good Very Badly==

Drumstick the Rooster

Drumstick the Rooster is a rooster that lives on Timber's Island in Diddy Kong Racing and is well-known among the locales for his racing skills. Constantly training on the island's many tourist-trap racetracks, Drumstick has honed his ability to become one of the greatest racers on the island. While his mastery of speed isn't in question, it was because of the confidence that stemmed from this that he was punished at the hands of an intergalactic pig.

When Wizpig took over the island, Taj, T.T., and Timber planned an immediate counter-offensive. They went to Drumstick and asked him to face down Wizpig in a race, with the stipulation that if Drumstick won, Wizpig would leave the island. Drumstick agreed, and all doubted that Wizpig would come out on top as the victor. However, some time passed and Drumstick has not returned. It was after this failure that Timber sent out a plea of help to his old friend Diddy Kong which led to a slew of racers both native and from elsewhere to help race Timber's Island to freedom.

In the midst of the racing adventure led by Diddy and Timber that would liberate the island, the slow defeat of Wizpig's magic also led to a reveal of sorts in the main meadow of the island. In the pool of water where the island's waterfalls came crashing down over the mountainside lived many frogs. After completing world four and collecting thirty-nine Golden Balloons, the heroes came upon of a frog was unusually sporting red plumage sprouting from its head. On a hunch, one of the racers ran over it with their vehicle, and in a brilliant flash of gold, Drumstick appeared. Wizpig had turned him into a frog, and it wasn't until his frog form was destroyed that he was able to be free. He immediately joined with the others in the fight, staying with them until the end.

Drumstick is believed to still be living on Timber's Island, spending his days (and nights) perfecting his skills on the track.

Drumstick can be unlocked in a different way in Diddy Kong Racing DS, the heroes must come upon a frog, throw him onto a ledge. Then, the frog comes down, revealing a red comb. The player must drive over this frog to unlock Drumstick, who was apparently the frog transformed by Wizpig.

Dung Beetle

Trivia
  • The fact that the Dung Beetles have a Liverpudlian accent is a possible reference to the band known as The Beatles or how much of a shithole Liverpool is.

Enguarde the Swordfish

It is unknown if the purple was to be a subspecies such as Quawks being one of Squawks or a different coloration.

He can also be shy, as can be seen with his attraction to Krystal and her natural beauty, charm, and allure.

Giant Spider

'The Giant Spider is a giant blue one-eyed spider mini-boss found in the nighttime in Fungi Forest and is fought by Tiny.

This mini-boss only attacks by summoning smaller spiders. These spiders can reverse the game's controls or freeze Tiny. The Giant Spider can be damaged by Tiny shooting an arrow from her Feather Bow into the Giant Spider's eye. When hit a few times, the Giant Spider shrinks into a regular spider. Tiny must jump on him a few more times to defeat the Giant Spider and obtain one of the Golden Bananas.

Trivia:

  • The Giant Spider may have been inspired from Arich, a boss in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!.
  • It's unknown if it's a female or male spider. It looks more like a male, but there are lots of small little spiders with it who could be it's sons and daughters.
  • It is very similar to Queen Gohma, a boss in The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of time.

Gloop

Trivia
  • Gloop's name may come from the "gloop" part in Bubblegloop Swamp.
  • Despite having swimming abilities and unlimited air, Gloop is unable to save Clanker.
  • Some people think that Dindin, another fish, is another Gloop, due to their similar appearances.

Gruntilda Winkybunion

Powers and Forces

Politically speaking, Gruntilda is not as powerful as villains from other series such as Bowser or Dr. Robotnik. [...] Many monsters are seen in and coming out of the Hag 1, but it may be that these are un-intelligent creatures created by magic, as none are actually seen in the building area of Cauldron Keep.

Jinxy

When first encountered, he is heavily congested; when the player clears his sinuses (by shooting eggs into his nostrils), he allows them inside of his body to get a Jiggy.

King Jingaling

King Jingaling is ruler of the peaceful Jinjo Village, where his golden temple is located. He carries with him a mysterious pink pet named Toots, who appears exactly like Rubee's pet companion from Gobi's Valley and could easily have just come into the kings possession. After the player has beaten Klungo and visited Jingaling, the king becomes one of Gruntilda's victims as she tries to suck up the life forces of characters in the Isle O' Hags to create a new body for herself, turning the King into a grey, evil zombie (Toots is reduced to a pile of ash, with only a pair of blinking eyes remaining) that has ties to bosses in the game. At the end of the game, he is rescued by Banjo and Kazooie when they infiltrate Gruntilda's hideout, Cauldron Keep. They use the B.O.B (Big-O'-Blaster) to revive everyone Grunty had sucked all the life away from, including Jingaling and Bottles. King Jingaling seems to act young seeing as he says "yo" often. He is one of the few characters Kazooie does not seem to insult - she even thinks his "strange pet thingy" is "cool". The duo often get his name wrong which annoyed him little by little and evident after you beat the game (Banjo mistakenly calls him "King Dingaling"). Although Jingaling is ruler it is strange to point out that the Jinjonator is more powerful and is considered a sort of ruler by the Oracles.

Kong Family

A Kong is an ape or monkey capable of speech and creating things like houses and other such things that are from the Donkey Kong series. The Kongs willingly wear clothes, and some of them have hair. They are often plagued by the crocodilian Kremlings.

Krazoa God

Trivia
  • He bears a slight resemblance to Lord of Games from Nuts & Bolts. However, given the fact that L.O.G. was created after the Krazoa God, the opposite is truer.

Krystal

Personality

Krystal is a beautiful, kind, and gentle vixen who however discovered that her hometown in her home planet and her world was destroyed decided to get answers she met an evil sharp claws name General Scales however she is not afraid of anything including one the first test however before becoming trapped in her prison she discover Andross who was expelled for his crimes of becoming mad with power. As she left a message for Fox, however, to temporarily use her staff for a while but becomes panic that she begins to beg for help to save her life. After becoming free from her prison she became cold and selfish by taking back her staff from Fox, which it wasn't his to begin with but regrets it. Later, she apologized to Fox for being cold and bitter and selfish after she took back her staff.

Lord of Games

Trivia
  • Originally, he was not only going to be the main villain of the game, but he was also going to be called God of Games. However, he was changed until he became the eccentric neutral character that he is today. It isn't known why his old role and name were changed, but it can be implied that his old role and name would've upset many religious gamers, as the idea of an evil "God" would greatly offend them and do more harm than good.
  • L.O.G. states that he appears in all video games in some form and says "Pet my piglet!". This was something the groundskeeper from Grabbed by the Ghoulies said, meaning that they may be the same character.

Mario

Relevance to Rare

Mario appears in the DS game , Banjo and Kazooie: Life of crime. He is the game's final boss. However, due to the game being banned, he didn't appear.

Tedi

Trivia
  • It was implied that the snarling cannibalistic voices of the Tediz aren't their true voices, as, in the electric chair room, two Dr. Tediz were speaking to each other in relatively human voices (breaking the fourth wall by talking about a video game that's possibly Conker's Bad Fur Day).
