Rare, Ltd., also known simply as Rare and, formerly, Rareware, is a British video game development company. They have developed a huge amount of games. Many were for Nintendo, but the company is now owned by Microsoft. Rare has two studios: one in Twycross, in Leicestershire, England and one in Digbeth, in Birmingham, England.

Critisism

Sadly Rare has lost many dedicated fans that supported games like Donkey Kong and Banjo-Kazooie (as seen as in this Wikia articles background). Notably Rare has won many awards from its popular Kinect Sports games avaliable for the Microsoft consoles. Many people also state that the company is trying to "hide" its past of many famous games published under Nintendo. The Nintendo 3DS game Donkey Kong 64 3D was leaked to release soon, but classical Rare fans started to hate the fact that it was going to just be anther re-release like the release of the not so popular game, "Diddy Kong Racing 64 DS". Rare's "RareLimited" YouTube account also has plenty of mixed reactions from fans from all around many countrys, about Kinect Sports titles. Rare disabled the comments as dislikes started building up. So far Rare, Ltd. has ignored the issues from upset (or angry and heartbroken) fans.

History

Rare was founded in 1982 by Tim and Chris Stamper. They published their games as Ultimate Play The Game, for 8-bit consoles like the ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, and BBC Micro. In 1995, Rareware made an agreement with Nintendo, and began publishing games for them. In 2002, Microsoft bought Rareware. Since then, Rareware has made console games strictly for Microsoft, but also made handheld games for Nintendo, by publishing them through THQ. During the summer of 2010, Rareware opened a new studio in Digbeth, in Birmingham, England.

While working for Microsoft, Rare has also helped create the Xbox Live Avatars. They have stated that they are focusing more on Microsoft's new controller-free peripheral, Kinect. Rare's first game to be released for Kinect was Kinect Sports, a disappointing game for many fans. Most of Rare developers left the company, and the same games maker may be closed soon.http://www.gamepron.com/news/2011/02/15/rumour-rare-ltd-on-the-way-out/#ixzz1ELjvyW43
