The Nintendo Entertainment System, often abbreviated to NES, is an 8-bit video game console developed and manufactured by Nintendo. It was originally released in 1983 in Japan, and later 1985 in North America. This was the very first home gaming console that Rare worked on and they ended up developing a grand total of 47 games for the console. Nintendo themselves had published a handful of their games for the system, as they were impressed by the company's quality standard of games. This is why they were allowed to release anywhere from 10 games per year on the system.
