Nintendo is a well known video game company who has originated from Japan. From 1994 until 2002, Rare teamed with them to make games together.

Rare is known for bringing the Donkey Kong series back to life with Donkey Kong Country, followed with two sequels. Nintendo is also well known for Rare's games on the Nintendo 64 such as Banjo-Kazooie, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Perfect Dark, GoldenEye 007, and Jet Force Gemini.

As the Nintendo GameCube came, Rare started taking on Nintendo's Star Fox series, followed by the release of Star Fox Adventures and was planning to release Donkey Kong Racing some time. In 2002, Microsoft bought Rare, ending the developer's relationship with Nintendo and making Rare taking their series to the Xbox and later the Xbox 360. The Donkey Kong and Star Fox series had to stay with Nintendo as they originally created it. Rare is currently not making any games for home Nintendo consoles anymore, but worked on the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS, until Microsoft had the handheld team become defunct.
