Nightshade is a fantasy, action puzzle game published by Ultimate Play the Game in 1985 for the Amstrad CPC, ZX Spectrum, BBC Micro, Commodore 64, and MSX. The game takes place in a valley that was once a safe and hospitable place to live, but then a darkness came, killing many of the inhabitants and warping the minds of those who remained. The player takes on the role of an adventurer who has come to the valley, seeking to uncover the mystery of the darkness. For the gameplay, the player has to explore a scrolling isometric 3D map, consisting of medieval-style buildings that can be entered to find useful items. There are various enemies roaming around these maps, of which the player can take three hits from but a fourth will cost one of five lives. If the player has collected any items from their explorations, they can throw them at the enemies to defeat them. However, there are four bosses within the game that require special items to defeat, so proceed with caution.
