Minecraft is a survival sandbox video game developed by Mojang Studios and released in 2011. The player can freely change the playable character's appearance, also known as skins, in the game to anything they desire on the Microsoft Windows, Macintosh and Linux versions, but when the console versions by 4J Studios released in 2012 and later, Mojang and Microsoft decided to release free and paid DLC skins and textures for the players to enjoy, including a handful of skins based on Rare's IPs.

List of Rare-related skin packs

Skin Pack 1

The "Skin Pack 1" is a downloadable skin pack that was released on July 16th, 2012 and cost 160 Microsoft Points / 2.99$USD / 490 Minecoins. The pack features 6 skins based on the Banjo-Kazooie series, them being Banjo, Grunty, Bottles,Tooty, Mumbo Jumbo, and Klungo.

When the pack first released on PlayStation consoles in 2014, the Skin Pack 1 excluded the skins based on Microsoft IPs, including the Banjo-Kazooie skins, and were instead replaced by skins based on IPs owned by Sony, such as Sly Cooper and Uncharted. Later in 2018, the original Skin Pack 1, now renamed to "Classic Skin Pack 1", was released on PlayStation consoles and includes all the skins that were originally in the pack.

Skin Pack 2

The "Skin Pack 2" is a downloadable skin pack that was released on August 24th, 2012 and cost 160 Microsoft Points / 2.99$USD / 490 Minecoins. It features 10 skins based on characters from the Perfect Dark series, Jet Force Gemini and the Viva Piñata series, them being three skins of Joanna Dark (as she appeared in Perfect Dark, in her black dragon dress from Perfect Dark, and as she appeared in Perfect Dark Zero), Elvis, Juno, Vela, Lupus, Horstachio (misspelled in-game as "Horstashio"), Pretztail, and Fizzlybear.

Similar to Skin Pack 1, this pack replaced the characters from Microsoft IPs to Sony IPs (such as Ratchet & Clank and God of War) on the PlayStation releases, although unlike the first pack, it was never made available on the Legacy Editions of these releases. Skin Pack 2 was later made available to purchase through the Bedrock Edition of the PlayStation 4 version of Minecraft.

Skin Pack 3

Halloween Charity Skin Pack

The "Halloween Charity Skin Pack" was a downloadable skin pack for charity that was made available from October 26th until November 26th, 2012, and included many Halloween-themed skins. It cost 1.99$ USD, with all proceeds going to charity.[1] The pack featured three skins based on Rare's games, them being of Gregg the Grim Reaper from Conker's Bad Fur Day, an Ancient Mummy from Grabbed by the Ghoulies, and a Zippy Zombie from the Kinect Sports series.

On October 23rd, 2015, Microsoft released the "Halloween Mash-up pack", which brought back all the skins from the "Halloween Charity Skin Pack".

Skin Pack 6

2nd Birthday Skin Pack

The "2nd Birthday Skin Pack" is a free downloadable skin pack that was made available from May 9th until May 31th, 2013, to celebrate Minecraft for Xbox 360's second anniversary. It featured skins with updated geometry compared to previous skin packs, which made it possible to make skins with more details, and skins for characters that weren't previously possible. The pack featured eight new skins based on Rare's games, them being Horstachio, Pretztail and Fudgehog from the Viva Piñata franchise, Conker (from both his Conker's Bad Fur Day and his Conker: Live & Reloaded appearances), Banjo and Kazooie (as a duo), Kazooie, and Gruntilda from the Banjo-Kazooie franchise.

Although the skin pack has been removed from the Microsoft Store, it can still be downloaded for free through the Minecraft Marketplace for the Bedrock Edition of Minecraft.[2]
