From Rare Wiki

The Commodore VIC-20 was released in 1981 as the first inexpensive color computer available, costing less than $300. The computer could only display 22 characters of text per line, so it's use for business was minimal, but thanks to it's price, good color display and joystick port, the VIC-20 proved to be quite popular for gaming.
